Guiao, two SMB mentors face sanctions

Red Bull coach Yeng Guiao and San Miguel Beer assistant coaches Pido Jarencio and Biboy Ravanes face possible sanction for their misconduct in their tumultuous game Sunday at the Araneta Coliseum.

Guiao, Jarencio and Ravanes have been summoned to appear in the new PBA office in Libis, Quezon City at 1 p.m. today.

Guiao was thrown out of the court for two technical fouls committed in a commotion triggered by his collision with Dondon Hontiveros in front of the Red Bull bench in the second quarter.

Red Bull officials wondered why Guiao was ejected while Jarencio and Ravanes escaped with only a technical foul each while rushing onto the Red Bull bench during the incident.

Jarencio was even clearly seen shoving away referee Mario Montiel while figuring in a verbal altercation with Guiao.

"We don’t condone wrongdoing of our players and even our coach. Pero mukhang nadehado kami ng husto. We were attacked and our coach was the one ejected," said Red Bull team manager and board representative Tony Chua.

"I never understood why I got two technical fouls. Hontiveros was bumping into me, I protected myself and he did a good job overacting in the incident. Then they rushed onto us," said Guiao.

PBA technical chief Perry Martinez said the points raised by the Red Bull officials are valid and it will be taken into consideration in today’s conference.

As Red Bull and San Miguel clash in a knockout set tomorrow, Guiao insists they have to make their own breaks, expecting not to get any from the referees.

Meanwhile, Hontiveros said he respects what Guiao was saying about protecting himself in their collision.

"If that’s what he was saying, I believe him. But about my overacting, hindi naman. I was running so fast when we collided. I just couldn’t stop the momentum," said Hontiveros.

Hontiveros said he was hit by Guiao’s elbow on the throat.
