Archers on their mark in elims

SUBIC BAY FREEPORT – Filipina archer Amaya Paz yesterday led her compatriots in grabbing the first four top places in archery’s qualifying rounds in the compound division in the Southeast Asian Games here.

She had a total score of 1373.

The other RP archers were Abbigail Tindugan (1365); Jennifer Chan (1357); and Joann Tabanag (1352).

The local ladies were followed by Indonesian Lilies Handayani, with 1348; Thai archer Narisara Tinbua, 1344; Singapore’s Maryanne Gul, 1328; and Malaysian Siti Aisah Sudin, 1322.

However, RP bets in the women’s recurve did not finish as well as Jasmin Figueroa only scored 1237 aggregate points, for eighth place, while Rachel Ann Cabral stayed at number 5 with 1278.

The women’s recurve qualifier dominated by Rina Dewi Puspita Sari of Indonesia with compatriots Novia Noraini and Yasmidar Hamid coming in second and third, with 1309 and 1303, respectively.

In the men’s compound archery, Malaysian Lang Hon Keong showed the way with total points of 1361.

Myanmar’s Myo Aung San was second with 1356; Ting Leong Fong of Malaysia third with a 1342 score.

Filipino bets Earl Benjamin Yap and Gil Babriel were at sixth place and seventh place in men’s compound division with score of 1335 and 1324, respectively. — Bebot Sison
