EAC Generals fortify hold on UCAA lead

Jester Ebuen hit 18 points as the defending champion Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals walloped the Philippine School of Business Administration Jaguars, 91-75, yesterday in the fourth Universities and Colleges Athletic Association (UCAA) men’s basketball tournament.

Ebuen struck hardest in the fourth period as the Generals streaked to their ninth win in 10 games at their own homecourt – the EAC Sports Center.

He chipped in six points during a 12-4 run which enabled the Generals to stay out of reach, 76-57, midway in the final period.

The Generals stayed on course to their second straight crown as they remained firmly ahead in the standings.

Bong Melocoton and Ronjay Buenafe backed up Ebuen with 15 and 13 points, respectively.

The Generals will try to keep their distance from the Patriots when they clash at 1 p.m. on Monday.

The La Salle-Dasmariñas Patriots are solidly in second place behind the Generals after blasting Asian Colleges of Science and Technology, 65-59.

Haddi Porto made 16 points for the Patriots, who claimed their sixth victory in seven matches.

Meanwhile, La Salle-Dasmariñas seeks to defend its men’s and women’s titles when the volleyball finals gets going on Tuesday.

The Patriots battle the St. Francis Doves at 12 noon in the men’s side while the Lady Patriots meet Olivarez College at 10 a.m. in women’s action.
