E King-Cover Girl duel up

The Empire King-Cover Girl battle for the top post continues as the two track rivals clash anew for the seventh time in today’s main event, the Eduardo Cojuangco Cup, capping the two-day Marho 31st anniversary racefest at the San Lazaro Leisure Park in Carmona, Cavite.

The 1,600-meter race in honor of Marho’s founding chairman and president, Ambassador Eduardo "Danding" Cojuangco, is an all-comers event for imported (foreign-bred) and locally bred gallopers vying for the P500,000 total pot.

"We are honored to host the Marho racefest featuring today the Cojuangco Cup. I would like to thank its founding chairman Ambassador Eduardo "Danding" Cojuangco, the officers and members of Marho headed by its president Aristeo "Putch" Puyat for bringing this special two-day racefest to the SLLP, and to the racing fans for their continued support of the racing programs of the club," said MJCI chairman and chief executive Alfonso Reyno Jr.

To date, Cover Girl (JB Hernandez 54) has posted four wins in six championship showdowns against Empire King (AB Alcasid Jr. 55) including the recent PCSO First Gentleman Silver Cup. However, the complexion of the race might change with the entry of Stowaway Lass (VR Dilema 54 AUS), winner of the All Imported Stakes Series-II at the SLLP.

Other veteran campaigners are American Woman (PR Dilema 54 AUS), Freewind (JB Guce 55), and West Bound (EF Salvador 55). — Ramon Romualdez
