Cebu to host 8th world arnis meet

The biggest arnis competition comes alive as the World Eskrima Kali Arnis Federation (WEKAF), in cooperation with the Cebu Visitors and Convention Bureau (CVCB) stages the week-long eighth World Championships 2004, set June 22-28 at the SM City’s Cebu Trade Hall and Entertainment Center.

More than 250 world-caliber arnis artists from 18 countries are flying in to compete for the titles at stake in this prestigious event aimed at reviving interest in this ancient style of Filipino martial arts, which traces its roots back from the time of our first national hero, Lapu-Lapu.

Lawyer Dionisio Cañete, chairman emeritus of the organizing WEKAF, and his group, the Doce Pares, are spearheading this world championship which will also include the grandmasters seminar, the WEKAF congress, and a three-day competition in cooperation with the Cebu City government and Casino Filipino-Cebu.
