WNC gives way to cheering tilt

After a highly-charged semifinal round, the 34th WNCAA adidas tournament takes a break this weekend to give way to the juniors cheerleading competition and the awarding ceremony for the winners of the first WNCAA campus VJ hunt.

At 6 tonight, the country’s first and only tri-level league for women will fete their winning VJs at the Cafe Lupe restaurant.

The search, which ran from Aug. 4-21, produced the following lovely and talented ladies: Jamie Rose Caverte and Tiffany Gonzalez of St. Scholastica’s College; Nina Gonzales and Rizzaline Diaz of Emilio Aguinaldo College-Manila; Grace Gerson and Marie Eloise Castillo of host Siena College of Quezon City; Lourna Jane Reyes and Maureen Sy of St. Stephen’s High School; and Julienne Cruz and Abigail Reyes of Miriam College.

Tomorrow at the Philsports Arena, Miriam will defend its pep dancing and cheer dancing titles starting at 1 p.m.

The 34th WNCAA-adidas is being sponsored by Rustan’s Essenses, Manila Bulletin, Philippine Star, RPN 9, Monster Radio RX 93.1 Gold’s Gym and in part by Cadbury, Secret, Island Cove resorts, Goldilock’s, Cafe Lupe, Purefoods Tender Juicy Hotdog and Centrum.

The best-of-three championship of the basketball and volleyball events will begin on Oct. 17 at the Rizal Technological University gym.
