Coseteng perfect with SVI-GP sweep

SUBIC — Three-time champion Jody Coseteng of Red Horse-San Miguel Beer-Caltex completed another smashing performance on Mother’s Day, sweeping the seventh and eighth rounds of the SVI-Petron Grand Prix before another big crowd at the Subic International Raceway here Sunday.

Unfazed by the challenge put up by perennial rivals Kookie Ramirez of Petron-SRA and Mike Anton of Red Bull-Auto Plus, Coseteng steered his trusty Toyota Corolla to his second back-to-back victories in the centerpiece Blaze super saloon category.

"I had a perfect race on a perfect day. The car is really in good condition right now and the team members are doing everthing to ensure my success," said Coseteng, who is seeking his fourth national title since the revival of circuit racign in 1994.

Coseteng, who is scheduled to leave for a two-week business trip to the United States anytime this week, clocked 34:24.486 in winning the 15-lap afternoon race. He also submitted the fastest lap time of 1:29.99 in the third lap of the morning race.

The win enabled the 42-year old campaigner to pull away in the overall standings with an eight-round aggregate of 66 points based on the 10-6-4-3-2-1 scoring system being used by the organizing Sports Values, Inc. (SVI).
