US five eyes second win vs Blu in Lucena

USA-Bingo Bonanza guns for its second straight victory as it tests Blu All-Purpose today when the PBL RP-USA Goodwill Series shifts action to the Quezon Convention Center in Lucena City.

Gametime is at 5 p.m. Welcoat Paints tackles the Quezon Selection at 3 p.m.

The twinbill is made possible by the Quezon provincial government headed by Gov. Willie L. Enverga through sports coordinators Romy Cardenas and Eddie Barcelona and Councilor Tomas Ilao.

The visiting Americans bounced back from an 84-89 setback to the RP Team Saturday night as they whipped Hapee Toothpaste, 103-76, in their last outing.

Six-foot-5 Will Levy did much of the damage, coming up with 22 points and 12 rebounds. Brando Payton provided the court leadership with 19 points, 10 assists, four rebounds and two steals.

Blu coach Leo Isaac, taking note of the Americans’ frontline strength and speed, said it will take a different kind of intensity, offense and defense to stop the visiting Americans.

"We have to take early control of the match and find ways to stop their big men," said Isaac. "This match will be a good gauge if we made the right choices for our line-up for the coming 2003 season."

But for sure, the Detergent Kings will miss the court leadership of Aries Dimaunahan and the dominance of Marlon Legaspi who both have moved to the PBA. And the question is, who will take over their chores?

The DSS Productmakers Inc. franchise acquired the services of veterans Roel Buenaventura and Randy Lopez to back up Allan Gamboa at the slot.

Former Ana Freezer King Roland Pascual will also make a comeback this season with Blu together with Chris de Jesus and Melvin Taguines as they support mainstays Mike Garcia, John Paul Prior, Jacques Gottenbos, Gio Coquilla, Rey Mendez, Tristan Codamon, three-point shooter Eric de la Cuesta and hardworking Lou Gatumbato.
