Domingo-Abad rules Southwoods Invitational

CARMONA, Cavite — Gil Domingo and Antonio Abad came up with excellent games to win the coveted overall team championship of the 2002 Southwoods Invitational held here at the sprawling Manila Southwoods Golf and Country Club.

The duo of Domingo and Abad breezed through the tough Masters course and the newly-greened Legends course with a combined net total of 264 points to beat 374 other pairs in the two-day, two-man team event presented by CAP Philippines and Smart Communications.

"I would like to thank all the sponsors, club management and staff, especially the Sports and Games Committee headed by chairman Alfredo Mendoza, for a wonderful tournament. We promise a bigger and better event next year," said Manila Southwoods chair Robert John Sobrepeña.

Shean Bedi and Ronnie Littaua, on the other hand, made a charge in the final round at the Masters course with under-par rounds of net 70 and 69, respectively, to win the low gross championship. The pair of Bedi, tournament director of the Fil-Am golf event in Baguio, and Littaua, member of Federation League defending champ Team Forest Hills, also won in the 2000 Southwoods Invitational.
