CSB sweeps elims

Defending champion College of St. Benilde swept the 33rd WNCAA-adidas basketball elimination yesterday with Emilio Aguinaldo College as its last and ninthh victim, 110-9, at the St. Scholastica’s College gym.

The Blazers will face the University of the Assumption-Pampanga Blue Pelicans in the semifinals which begin Sept. 14.

UA-P finished its elims campaign Saturday at 6-3 with a 77-46 victory over Rizal Technological University.

Semis format will pit number one team versus the fourth-placed team and number two versus number three. The higher-ranked teams have twice-to-beat advantages.

Lyceum, by virtue of the winner-over-the-other rule, edged St. Benedict College for the second spot.

SBC beat Miriam College yesterday, 52-42, for a 7-2 card while Lyceum, at 7-1, is still playing Assumption College as of presstime.

Lyceum won over SBC last Aug. 4, 97-37.

The 33rd WNCAA-adidas is being supported by RPN 9, DWRX 93.1, Don Henrico’s Pizza, Avon, Elle, official marketing group Tactical Xperts Corporation and official balls Mikasa and Molten.

Miriam College downed St. Stephen’s High School, 56-25, in the high school level while host Assumption College outlasted St. Benedict, 57-36, as both winners tied idle De La Salle Zobel at 5-1.

Miriam, however, emerged the top squad and will meet St. Scholastica in the semis while number two DLSZ faces third-ranked Assumption.
