4 RP drivers to race on famous Sepang tracks

Four Filipino ace drivers will see action in the ninth and 10th rounds of the 2002 Asian Formula Challenge at the Sepang F1 Circuit tomorrow and Saturday in Sepang, Malaysia.

Jojo Silverio of Tom’s ZED, Richard Joson of Denso JF3 Racing and Pepon Marave of Shell Racing Team compete in the Asian Formula 3 race while Enzo Pastor of Team TEC joins the Formula Renault run.

Organized by the Asian Formula 3 Corp., Formula Racing Development and the Malaysian Motor Sports Club, the Sepang Formula Challenge also features big names, including Briton Mark Goddard of Castrol Team Goddard, Frenchman Philippe Descombes of FRD Harbour View, Vertex Motorsports’ Paul Chan, Jonathan Chan and Marchy Lee, American David Louie and Hong Kong’s Stephen Chau of FRD Motorsports.

No less than 20 cars are forming up the starting grid in Sepang, which played host to the second round of this year’s Formula One World Championship. The 5.542-kilometer long track features an impressive array of medium to high-speed corners with a healthy sprinkling of straights in between, the longest of which is 928 meters. Its wide roads make it difficicult for drivers to judge their lines and braking points on all of its 15 turns. And this will surely make for a closely fought and exciting event which will be held in conjunction with Malaysia’s Merdeka Day celebrations.
