Intal stars in HK; Dottie due

Ian "Viboy" Intal delivered another victory for the Philippines overseas jungolf competitions by coming from behind to capture the boys 13-14 years division of the Hong Kong McGregor junior golf championship recently.

Intal running third before the final round, staged a mighty comeback to highlight another fruitful campaign for a nine-player delegation from the Junior Golf Foundation of the Philippines.

Don Padilla (boys 15-17), Mikee Camitoc (boys 11-12) and Debbie de Villa (girls 11-12) also made a good account of themselves by placing fourth in their respective divisions of the tourney that drew entries from seven countries. De Villa had a chance to win her division but collapsed with a 12 in a par 5.

Padilla combined with his brother DJ to finish third in the team event.

Others who saw action were power-hitter Eugene Bunyi, Riva Galvez Tan, Mac Arevalo and Angela Erika de Villa.

"It’s indeed a banner year for Philippine jungolf and we’re really proud of these young boys and girls who have become giants in the international scene," said Jungolf chair Amalia Montecillo.

Montecillo together with Jungolf president Merwin Mediana, officials of Philippine Airlines and the Philippine Sports Commission will lead the grand welcome for new sensation Dottie Ardina who is arriving today from the United States.

Ardina took the US jungolf scene by storm after winning both the Junior World in San Diego and US Kids World Championship in Williamsburg, Virginia.
