Pinoy keglers on course for another gold

KUALA LUMPUR (Via Globe Telecoms) — The Philippines keglers continued to bowl over the oppositions with four RP Ladies showing the way after the first block of the Masters event at the Magallanes Bowling Center in Prai, Penang yesterday.

Irene Garcia, Maria Liza del Rosario, Liza Clutario and Cecilia Yap were in a class of their own, leading the 16 finalists going into the second block of eight games today.

Garcia recorded 1,717 pinfalls including 70 bonus points over eight games, averaging 205.88 minus bonus points. Del Rosario was second with 1,686, Clutario third with 1,684 and Cecilia Yap fourth with 1,666.

Josephine Canare, the other Filipina bet who made it to the Magic 16, was at 10th place with 1613.

In the Masters event, 10 bonus points will be given to the winner in every game and five bonus points for a draw.

Trailing the four Filipinas were Singaporeís Jennifer Tan Bee Leng and Cheryl Anne Soon June Ling with 1654 and 1652, respectively, then Thailandís Kanit Kichtham with 1643, Malaysiaís Sharon Chai Siew Honn and Lai Kin Ngoh with 1639 and 1615, respectively.

The RP men were once again overshadowed by the RP women as no one among the four Filipino finalists made it to the top five.

Malaysia’s Alex Liew when topped the men’s category with 1,797 pinfalls including 70 bonus points (averaging 215.88) followed by Singaporean Lee Yu Wen, who was 73 pins behind. In third place was Yannaphon Larp-Apharat of Thailand with 1,711 pinfalls.

The scores of CJ Suarez, Botchok Rey, Constantine Chester King and Benny Dytoc were not yet available at presstime. After the seventh of eight games, Suarez was at sixth with 1443, Rey 13th with 1376, King with 1347 and Dytoc with 1327. Nelson Beltran
