But the Cangolf golfers had to come up with a strong finishing kick to turn back their rivals from Villamor as Tracy Locsin and Lucy Landicho fired 39 and 38 points, respectively, and Lina de Guzman and Nemie Castor tossed 37 points apiece to win the 34th staging of the annual championship.
Villamor seized a three-point lead heading into the final 18 holes of the 54-hole event on the 44-point burst by teener Jayvee Agojo, but the team could only muster a 145 in the final day as it settled for second with 451.
The other members of the Cangolf squad are Jolly Dayag, Ruby Walker, Teresa Carpio, Terry Parala, Aileen Chua and Harumi Ieda.
Agojo, the youngest player in the tournament at 14, scored 38 points in the final round, the same score by Masa Tsai as Villamor wound up with a 451 after a 145. Sta. Elena finished third with 432 after a 140 followed by Riviera (142-422) and Southwoods in the event sponsored by the Yulo family, the CGCC Ladies Branch, led by its president Charing Villar, Mitsubishi Motors Phils. and the Womens Golf Association of the Phils.
Villamor, however, bagged the top honors in Team B with 470 points after a 162 with Philippine Navy finishing second with 464 after a 145. Riviera ruled Team C with 473 points after a 155, beating Villamor, which had a 417 after a 145.
Wack Wacks Heidi Chua scored 221 points to claim the overall gross championship in the individual competition. Other winners were Lora Roberto of Riviera in Team A, Beth Menchavez of Phil. Navy in Team B, and Mayee Liaq of Villamor in Team C.
