Fast course laid out for RP triathlon

A fast course in the heart of Dumaguete City awaits the local and Hong Kong triathletes competing in the Jan. 14, 2001 National Triathlon Trials cum Inter-Club Championships.

Dong Sarmiento, technical director of the organizing Triathlon Association of the Philippines (TRAP) collaborated with Joe Guirit, sports coordinator of Dumaguete City, in mapping out the 51.5-kilometer route. Sarmiento and Guirit act as co-race directors.

The 1.5-kilometer swim leg has two laps with the flat 40- kilometer cycling leg having six loops, the 10-kilometer run stage having five loops and lesser curves than the inaugural course designed for a tactical race.

Long-time Philippine triathlon supporter Ian Dacre of Hong Kong serves as the technical delegate of the Asian Triathlon Confederation (ASTC).

Meanwhile, registration for the two-in-one competition presented by the Dumaguete Millennium Foundation headed by Manuel Sagarbarria and sponsored by the Philippine Sports Commission, POC’s Sports for All Commission and Asia Pacific Insulation Corporation is now in high gear. SPEEDO is the race’s official outfitter, Negros Navigation the official carrier and VIVA Spring Water the official water.
