RP bets falter in World Cup elims

The Philippines faltered with a woeful 79 in the foursome event of the Johnnie Walker Asian Nations Cup and virtually bowed out of contention for a berth in the World Cup of Golf.

After making good account of themselves in the fourballs format with a 69 Thursday, Robert Pactolerin and Tony Lascuna lost their teamwork in the alternate golf shots as they fumbled with that seven-over card to slide to ninth place with 148 at the Pinx Golf Club in Cheju Island, Korea.

That was 10 strokes behind the third-running Hong Kong squad, which had a 138 after a 73.

Only the top three finishers after four rounds will advance to the WMC World Cup slated in Argentina in December.

Korea continued to dominate the field at home, firing a 69 and posting a four-stroke lead over Thailand halfway through the event.

Taiwan is in fourth with a 140 after a 74 while Malaysia (76-142), India (73-143), Marianas (75-143) and Singapore (77-143) in that order.
