Died in Malaysia, Remains of OFW arrive in Roxas City

ILOILO CITY, Philippines – The remains of the overseas Filipino worker (OFW), who reportedly committed suicide in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia last Nov. 8, arrived in Roxas City, Capiz early Tuesday morning through a Philippine Airlines connecting flight.

Anthony Magbanua, uncle of OFW Aloha Magbanua, expressed satisfaction to the assistance provided them by the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), a PNA report said.

OWWA-6 regional director Samuel Madrid assured the family of the agency’s P100,000 death assistance and P30,000 burial benefit for Aloha, who is a member of OWWA. The family will also be provided livelihood assistance and educational aid for her 9-month-old child, he said.

Madrid, citing the autopsy report, said Aloha died of “asphyxia consistent with hanging.” The OFW left the Philippines to work in Malaysia last July 2, through the Mothers Way local agency, he said.

He added that the 34-year-old mother from Brgy. Bulo, Roxas City, was scheduled for repatriation on the day she hanged herself inside the bathroom of the Filipino Resource Center of the OWWA, where she sought assistance after leaving her employer. —(FREEMAN)
