Houses for Dumaguete flood victims set for turnover

DUMAGUETE CITY, Philippines – More flood victims in Dumaguete who were displaced by tropical storm Sendong last December 17 will soon have brand new homes with the blessing and turnover of 16 more units next week at the Caritas Village Shelter Project in Brgy. Bajumpandan.

Palo (Leyte) Archbishop John F. Du, former bishop of Dumaguete, will grace the event at the project site, said Fr. Burton Villarmente, director of the Social Action Center of the Diocese of Dumaguete. Du had set in motion the housing project shortly before he left for his new assignment in Palo last May.

The 16 units bring to 28 the total number of houses so far donated to Sendong victims in the city, under the program undertaken by the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines-National Secretariat for Social Action (CBCP-NASSA), the Diocese of Dumaguete and its Social Action Center, and the city government. - THE FREEMAN
