BACOLOD CITY, Philippines — The 2012 MassKara Festival logo, which was unveiled at the Bacolod Government Center grounds Tuesday night with a 10-minute fireworks display, was a prelude of how grand this year’s festival is going to be in October.
Mayor Evelio Leonardia announced that the 2012 MassKara Festival is going to be the “biggest and the grandest MassKara ever.”
“We hope to do it that way, it’s appropriate that after 12 years that I am the mayor of Bacolod, and during my last term as mayor, it’s going to be the best MassKara ever,” said the mayor who also celebrated his birthday on launching day of the festival logo.
This year’s MassKara logo was created by nine emerging Bacolod artists, under the direction of three creative consultants.
The artists created an artwork for each letter: Junjun Montelibano for the letter M, Susanito Sarnate for A, Cindy Ballesteros for S, Jay-R Delleva for S, Guinevire Decena for K, Hilario Campos III for A, Roderick Tijing for R, and Peter James Fantinalgo for A.
The ninth artist, multimedia artist Daryl Jimenea, put all these eight artworks together, with his “digital skill and savvy,” to become this year’s logo. Jimenea also created the 2010 MassKara logo and designed the MassKara website since 2010 up to now.
The three creative consultants were Raymond Legaspi, who also made the past MassKara logo, Rudy Reveche, chairman of the festival’s streetdance committee, and Charlie Co, head of the creative team, who has done the dreamers’ floating carousel of Majica MassKara last year.
Festival director Eli Tajanlangit said the artwork in each letter is a take on the theme “Life’s Good in Bacolod,” this year’s theme of the MassKara Festival.
Each artwork depicts the good life in Bacolod, such as its royal celebrations, unique blending of urban and rural lives, capacity to celebrate, abundance of talents here in painting and film-making, unity and how MassKara Festival bring people together.
Attending the unveiling of logo were Vice Mayor Jude Thaddeus Sayson, and Councilors Em Ang, Caesar Distrito, Catalino Alisbo and Carl Lopez.
The event was made more fun with the participation of GMA TV, partner of the Silver MassKara Festival Organization, which presented performances of its stars Ryza Cenon, Mike Tan, Jaya and Mark Bautista. (FREEMAN)
