7K jobs open to Bacolod applicants

BACOLOD CITY ,Philippines — About 7,000 jobs are up for grabs today, May 1, at the SM City mall here.

Senior Labor Employment Officer Evangeline Indon of DOLE said 4,000 of these available jobs are for abroad while about 2,500 jobs will come from local companies.

A total of 65 companies including, five overseas-based, will interview pre-registered applicants as well as walk-in clients starting 10:00am.

Most jobs overseas come from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, making up 90 percent of the demand and the rest are from other Middle East countries.

Skilled workers like carpenters, plumbers, welders top the workers in demand. Nurses and domestic helpers are also needed, Indon said.

During the pre-registration activity last April 24 to 27, the DOLE attracted 3,600 jobseekers who will be given priority numbers and whose trainings were already matched with the need of the employers.

Indon said the job-matching increases the chances of applicants of being hired as they also expect a number of applicants who will be hired-on-the-spot. ——contributed by Lorenzo O. Lambatin Jr.
