ILOILO CITY, Philippines - — For the first time, teachers who are members of Provincial School Board, got their salaries this summer vacation.
Human Resource Management and Development Office chief Alma Ravena said there are a total of 272 PSB-funded teachers scattered in different public elementary and secondary schools in the province.
She said the teachers will receive P12,000 salary each for the months of April and May.
Iloilo Governor Arthur Defensor Sr. said it is only proper that PSB teachers will be given their salaries even during vacation since they have to feed their families.
"I am wondering why they are not given their salaries during summer? Are they not eating during the months of April and May? Makaluluoy man sila," he said.
PSB teachers do not receive benefits similar to teachers under the Department of Education.
Seventy-nine PSB teachers from the 3rd district came to the Governor's Office on April 27, to personally thank the governor. Those from other districts are also scheduled to meet with the governor in the next few days. —(FREEMAN)
