ILOILO CITY , Philippines — The scorching heat over the city has allegedly claimed the life of a Sangguniang Kabataan chairperson of Barangay Danao in this city Friday morning.
According to Bombo Radyo report, 17-year-old SK chairperson Mary Christine Ceballos Pacificar, first collapsed in front of the DILG office at Fort San Pedro in the city.
She was rushed to the Iloilo Doctors Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
Pacificar, who was taking up accountancy course at the Saint Paul University of Iloilo, was the youngest of three children. Her mother Hilda is a barangay captain while her father is a policeman.
Hilda told the radio station that too much exhaustion and heat could have led to the death of her daughter, who she said had not enough sleep for the past several days due to piling works in the barangay.
A medical bulletin describes heat stroke as a form of hyperthermia, an abnormally elevated body temperature with accompanying physical and neurological symptoms. Unlike heat cramps and heat exhaustion, it is a real medical emergency that can be fatal if not properly and promptly treated.
