Surrender?

CEBU, Philippines -"If the surrender materializes, the rebels' Central Negros front will die a natural death," Porto said as he commended the active participation in counter-insurgency efforts by the mayors, peace and order councils, the police, and the Church Military Advisory Group of Negros (CMAG-N).

"They continue to be our strongest partners for peace," said Porto who was also instrumental in the completion of 240 Kalayaan sa Barangay Projects (KBP) of the Army's Engineer Construction Battalions.

Under Porto's administration, the 3rd ID has increased its personnel strength from 70 to 90 percent by recruiting and training six batches of Candidate Soldiers Course that produced 1,100 new soldiers, and led to the activation of the 82nd Infantry Battalion and the 3rd Civil-Military Operations Battalion.

"My legacy is about the faithful, brave, gallant, well trained soldiers who dedicatedly and devotedly fought side by side for democracy and peace either in actual combat, or otherwise, who worked with me in the offices or in the operations other than war. Their strength, discipline, commitment and courage, make our soldiers, officers and enlisted personnel alike, truly a national treasure," Porto said.
