MANILA, Philippines — Matagumpay na nasungkit ng Team Asia ang kampeonato sa kauna-unahang Reyes Cup na ginanap sa Ninoy Aquino Stadium sa Malate, Manila.
Nagawa ito ng Team Asia matapos patumbahin ang Team Europe sa three-day meet.
Sa huling araw ng bakbakan, tinalo ni Aloysius Yapp ng Singapore si Francisco Sanchez Ruiz ng Spain sa pamamagitan ng 5-1 desisyon.
“I’m proud of the whole team. At the start of the week, I was very nervous and made a lot of mistakes, but my teammates supported me and lifted up my spirit, and Efren (Reyes) is the best coach I could ask for,” ani Yapp.
Itinanghal si Yapp bilang tournament MVP.
“MVP is not just for me. It’s for all my teammates as well. Even Efren because he’s the best coach you could ever ask for,” dagdag ni Yapp.
Kasama ni Yapp sa Team Asia sina Johann Chua, Carlo Biado, Ko Pin Yi ng Chinese-Taipei at Duong Quoc Hoang ng Vietnam.
“Sobrang priceless ito para sa amin dahil nanalo kami ng Reyes Cup na nandito si Efren Bata Reyes,” ani Chua.
Nauna nang tinalo nina Ko Pin Yi at Duong Quoc sina Sanchez Ruiz at Mickey Krause ng Team Europe sa doubles event sa iskor na 5-3.
