AIBA president nagpaabot ng pakikiramay sa pamilya ni Villanueva

MANILA, Philippines - Nagpaabot ng kanyang pakikiramay si AIBA president Ching-Kuo Wu sa pamilya ng namayapang si Olympic featherweight silver medalist Anthony Villanueva.

Sa isang liham kay ABAP president Ricky Vargas, ipinaramdam ni Wu ang kanyang kalungkutan sa pagkamatay ni Villa­nueva sa pagsasabing “It will not only leave a void in the Boxing Family in the Philippines, but also in the hearts of all those who knew this hero around the world.”

“In my capacity of President of the International Boxing Association, AIBA, and on behalf of the entire boxing family, I would like to express my most heartfelt condolences and my deepest sympathy for the mourning of the first ever Filipino Olympic Silver Medalist, Mr. Anthony Villanueva,” ani Wu. “I share your sadness in these painful moments and would like to send to your Boxing Association and also to his family, AIBA’s affectionate support,” dagdag pa nito.

Natalo si Villanueva sa kanyang gold medal fight kay Soviet Union boxer Stanislav Stepashkin noong 1964 Tokyo Olympics.

Namatay siya noong Martes dahil sa sakit sa puso sa edad na 69-anyos.
