MANILA, Philippines — Pinagbobomba ng tubig ng Chinese Coast Guard ang ilang bangkang Pilipinong magdadala lang sana ng pagkain sa mga sundalong Pinoy sa loob ng exclusive economic zone (EEZ) ng bansa, ayon sa Department of Foreign Affairs at Western Command sa Palawan.
Ayon kay Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr., Huwebes, ika-16 ng Nobyembre nang harangin at i-water cannon ng tatlong Chinese Coast Guard vessels ang dalawang Philippine supply boats na magdadala lang sana ng pagkain sa Philippine military sa Ayungin Shoal.

Pinaalalahanan din ng DFA ang Tsina na ang mga "public vessels" ay saklaw ng Philippines-United States Mutual Defense Treaty, na pwedeng gamiting grounds ng pagdepensa ng Estados Unidos sa Pilipinas.
Ayon sa Article V ng Mutual Defense Treaty, ang mga "armed attack" sa:
... an armed attack on either of the Parties is deemed to include an armed attack on the metropolitan territory of either of the Parties, or on the Island territories under its jurisdiction in the Pacific Ocean, its armed forces, public vessels or aircraft in the Pacific.
Pilipinas lang pwede magpatupad ng batas sa Ayungin
Ang Ayungin Shoal (Second Thomas Shoal) ay isang feature na matatagpuan 105 nautical miles kanluran ng Palawan — pasok sa 200 nautical miles para maging bahagi ito ng EEZ ng Pilipinas. Bahagi ito ng Kalayaan Island Group ng Pilipinas.
Dahil dito, Maynila lang ang may karapatang mag-"explore, exploit, conserve" at mamahala sa mga yamang-dagat doon. Pilipinas lang din ang may karapatang mang-aresto at magsagawa ng judicial proceedings doon alinsunod sa mga batas nito. Maliban sa EEZ, nasa continental shelf din ito ng Maynila, kung saan may soberanya, soberanyang karapatan at jurisdiction ang bansa.
"The acts of the Chinese Coast Guard vessels are illegal. China has no law enforcement rights in and around these areas. They must take heed and back off," patuloy ng DFA official.
"The failure to exercise self-restraint threatens the special relationship between the Philippines and China that President Rodrigo R. Duterte and President Xi Jin Ping have worked hard to nurture."
Ngayong 2021 lang nang sabihin ng Beijing na magpapatupad sila ng batas na magpapahintulot sa Chinese Coast Guard na magpaputok sa mga "mananakop" sa mga itinuturing nitong territorial waters sa South China Sea at West Philippine Sea na inaangkin ng Asian Giant. Ito'y kahit na pinanigan na rito ng Permanent Court of Arbitration ang Maynila.
Nangako naman ang DFA na magpapatuloy ang Pilipinas sa paghahatid ng suplay sa mga tropang Pilipino sa Ayungin Shoal. Hindi na raw kasi kailangan ng bansa na magpaalam sa Tsina para rito lalo na't teritoryo naman ito ng Pilipinas.
