MANILA, Philippines — Hindi kayang pigilan ng death penalty si dating Calauan, Laguna mayor Antonio Sanchez na isakatuparan ang ginawang krimen.
Ayon kay Senate Minority Leader Franklin Drilon na nagsilbing Justice secretary noong nililitis pa ang kasong panggagahasa at pagpatay ni Sanchez kay Eileen Sarmenta at pagpaslang kay Allan Gomez, ilang beses niyang nakaharap si Sanchez at walang basehan ang sinasabing mapipigilan ng death penalty ang ginawang krimen ni Sanchez.
Mismong ang huwes aniya na nagbaba ng hatol kay Sanchez ay tinawag ang kaso na isang “plot hatched in hell.”
“Are they telling me that if there was death penalty, Sanchez would not have committed the crime? I saw him face to face and there’s nothing that can support that conclusion. As the judge said, this is a plot hatched in hell. That conclusion that if there was death penalty, Sanchez could not have committed his crime, has absolutely no basis. No. I confronted him on a number of times,” sabi ni Drilon.
