MANILA, Philippines - Matapos ang kauna-unahan niyang kabiguan, magbabalik si Mercito ‘No Mercy’ Gesta sa boxing ring sa Hulyo sa kanyang pag-akyat sa light welterweight division kontra kay Olusegun Ajose ng Nigeria.
“We accepted the fight a couple of weeks ago, and now they’re working on the site,†sabi ng manager ni Gesta na si Vince Parra sa panayam ng BoxingScene.com. “But everything looks set to go on our end.â€
Nanggaling si Gesta (26-1-1, 14 KOs) sa isang unanimous decision loss laban kay International Boxing Federation lightweight titlist Miguel Vazquez (33-3-0, 13 KOs) ng Mexico noong Disyembre ng 2012.
“He’s trying to get back in the mix to fight for a title. There’s a lot of good fights at 140 (light-welterweight), and this is the quickest way back to the top,†ani Parra. “It’s a new year, and he’s ready to come back out and surprise some people.â€
Ang ama ni Gesta na si Anecito ang magsisilbing chief trainer, habang tututukan ni Parra ang career ng Filipino boxer.
“I’m still going to be assistant trainer, but this is something he’s always wanted as a kid, especially since his dad is now here from the Philippines,†ani Parra.
Ang tanging kabiguan ni Ajose (31-1-0) ay kay Argentine Lucas Matthysse.
