MANILA, Philippines - Ang Philippine Volleyball Federation, ay magho-host ng 18th Asian Volleyball Confederation General Assembly sa Sept. 26 sa Manila para sa layu-ning buhayin ang public awareness at pasikatin ang men’s side ng sport.
May kabuuang 20 Asian countries ang kalahok sa 10-day tournament habang ang AVC Congress ay lalahukan ng 63 member nations mula sa region, ayon kay PVF secretary general Otie Camangian na panauhin sa PSA forum sa Shakey’s UN Avenue branch sa Manila kahapon.
Kasama ni Camangian sa session na sponsored ng Shakey’s, Accel, PAGCOR at Outlast Battery si newly-appointed PVF deputy secretary Gener Dungo, na nagsabing ito ang unang pagkakataon na gaganapin sa bansa ang major men’s international volleyball competition.
“Women’s volleyball has often been the local focus of the sport. We in the PVF intend to balance things by staging the Asian men’s seniors championship because that is also part of our mandate,” ani Camangian. “ We want to show Filipinos that there is a men’s side to the sport which is why we are bring the tournament here.”
Sinabi naman ni Dungo, dating volleyball standout at ngayon ay isa nang matagumpay na businessman, na nangangailangan sila ng P18-P20 million para ihost ang dalawang events.
“The Philippine Sports Commission and the Philippine Olympic Committee have promised to help up in this project, which is also part of the PVF’s sports tourism program,” ani Dungo.
Ayon kay Dungo, bukod sa entry fees, ang kikitain sa AVC at sa broadcast rights para sa volleyball tourney, naghahanap din ang PVF ng sponsors na may magandang packages para mapunan ang kanilang gastos.
