MANILA, Philippines - Convergys, the country’s largest private employer, empowers employees in each of its 34 centers nationwide to give back to those in need, right in the communities where they live and work, through the Convergys Community Action Network (CAN).
One example is the CAN partnership between employee volunteers of the Convergys One site in Ayala, Makati City, and the Don Bosco Pugad Center.
Since the year-long partnership started, some 200 Convergys employee volunteers have contributed 750 service hours for four projects over the past five months, which include: dormitory and classroom repainting, personality development and talent performance tutorials, as well as hygiene management sessions and kit distribution from employee donations. In turn, Don Bosco Pugad Center’s team provided a baking technical class to Convergys employee volunteers.
Don Bosco Pugad Center not only provides shelter to underprivileged youth aged 17 to 24, but also technical education and livelihood skills training in agriculture, baking, food serving and management of a water refilling station.
Being co-located in Makati, Don Bosco Pugad Center was an ideal partner for employees in the Convergys One, Makati site to build a long-term relationship anchored on contributing to self-sufficiency, stability and education of young adults who are tomorrow’s workforce.
“It’s a great pleasure to be one of the employee volunteers. No words can express the feeling of fulfillment and connection to others after completing projects like the dorm repainting of five rooms in the Don Bosco Pugad Center. Knowing that you have worked alongside hundreds of volunteer colleagues in enabling a great home for the migrant youth is a powerful motivation,” shares one Convergys agent who is among the 200 employee volunteers.
Convergys’ CommunityAction Network and its unique approach to philanthropy has received recognition from the American Chamber of Commerce for “Access to Quality Education” in 2013, and the Corporate Governance Asia publication as one of the best CSR projects in Asia in 2014.
