Manila City, Philippines – September 21, 2014 In a goal of promoting awareness during calamities, Eveready Philippines Inc., in partnership with the local Disaster and Risk Reduction Management Council, launches “Pamilyang Ready, Ligtas na Community,” a nationwide preparedness campaign.
“This activity is meant to coincide with the rainy season. Since the country is visited by typhoons this time of the year, hence, the need to be prepared. We would like the activity to promote an all-season campaign, so we are always prepared for calamities,” said Cara Ramirez-Tecson, Marketing Manager of Eveready Philippines.
The launching held in Davao City, an off-shoot of a continuing preparedness campaign of the company will mark the beginning of a series of seminars and fun activities which will be held in Cebu, Metro Manila, Dagupan and Batangas.
Being known as one of the disaster-prone countries in the world, the Philippines was identified among the natural disaster hot-spot by a study conducted by World Bank in 2008. The country ranks third following countries like Vanuatu and Tonga.
According to the study, 50.3 percent of its total area and 81.3 percent of its population are prone to natural disasters.
Among the most damaging disasters recorded by the Centre for Research on the Epidemiology of Disasters (CRED) are tropical storms and floods. In effect, these calamities cause the loss of lives, livelihood, houses, and services.
To address this alarming concern, Eveready mounted the tour with the goal of helping residents of various communities around the country to be more ready.
“Providing batteries and flashlights to their emergency kit is our way of constantly reminding the public to always be EVEREADY. That’s one sure way of being prepared during calamities,” Jojo Emata, Brand Manager of Eveready, said.
During the seminar, preparedness activities for flood, earthquake, and fire will be discussed. The campaign will also introduce an improved emergency kit, a designed container called e-balde. The kit will contain Eveready batteries, flashlights, medicines, water, canned goods and other survival things.
“The Eveready Preparedness Caravan will be visiting key areas of the country for this advocacy campaign and we look forward to a strong partnership with the community and the families as we enjoin the people to be ready for any eventuality,” Lady Reyes, Product Manager Lights said.
