MANILA, Philippines - Wouldn’t it be nice to live in a world where everybody has a decent and safe place to live in? This is the vision of Habitat for Humanity Philippines (HFHP), a nonprofit, Christian housing ministry that works both to eliminate poverty housing and to make adequate housing a matter of conscience and action.
This is also the same vision that is very close to the heart of celebrity actor Derek Ramsay and equally shared by EastWest Bank, one of the fastest growing banks in the country today.
As his own personal way of celebrating his birthday and giving back to the community, Derek went to Barangay Tanza in Navotas City recently to build homes for HFHP. Not too many people know though that Derek, known in the industry for his good looks, acting prowess and passion for sports and cars, also has a soft spot in his heart for the less fortunate.
“I am always very thankful for all the blessings that I’ve received, for having a loving family, adoring fans, for my achievements as an actor and athlete as well as having a place that I can always call my home. Unfortunately though, there are still a lot of families out there who need a home and all of us can do our own share to help alleviate that problem. As a way of giving thanks and giving back to the community, I celebrated my birthday just recently, together with my HFHP and EastWest Bank family, by helping the homeless to finally have a home they can call their own,” said Derek.
Despite being hospitalized and undergoing surgery just a couple of weeks before joining the build in Navotas, Derek nevertheless pushed through with his promise. Accompanying him were his HFHP and EastWest Bank family, as well as close family and friends.
