MANILA, Philippines - The families of two policemen who died while trying to save victims in the landslide in Ifugao at the height of typhoon “Juaning” will receive financial assistance, an official of the Philippine National Police (PNP) said.
“SPO2 Ricky Agwit and SPO2 Jeff Domingo did not die in vain. Their untimely demise will be honored and remembered as a shining example of selfless service in the finest PNP tradition of service, honor and justice,” said PNP spokesman Chief Superintendent Agrimero Cruz Jr.
Cruz noted that the PNP leadership joined the entire 140,000-strong officers and rank-and-file police personnel in mourning the loss of two brothers-in-arms who offered the supreme sacrifice in the name of public service.
He said Agwit and Domingo, both of the Aguinaldo Municipal Police Station in Ifugao, braved heavy rains and gusty winds in responding to a call for police assistance to rescue stranded DENR personnel at the height of the storm’s fury last July 27.
“After successfully rescuing the distressed DENR foresters, the two policemen were caught in a sudden mudslide along with two other civilians in Sitio Eteet, Barangay Ubao in Aguinaldo town,” said Cruz.
He said the PNP morale and welfare policy assures immediate financial assistance and compensation for the orphaned families of the fallen police heroes.
“The heroism and supreme sacrifice offered by Agwit and Domingo should inspire the younger generation of police officers to serve with similar dedication and commitment. The PNP will never run out of heroes,” he added.
