LINGAYEN, Pangasinan, Philippines  – When not on patrol protecting the people, some policemen from the province conduct a supplemental feeding program for school children in an effort to make them closer to Mamang and Aleng Pulis.

This team of policemen led by Supt. Geraldo Roxas, chief of the provincial police community relations (PCR), has been to Tumbar Elementary School in Lingayen town, North Central Elementary School, Pantal Elementary School, Mamalingling Elementary School, Bacayao Norte Elementary School, all in Dagupan City; Bayambang Cadre Site in Bayambang town, among others, serving the kids nutritious arroz caldo with malunggay, hamburger and egg.

In each school, they serve an average of 200 pupils.

Roxas said it was a show of bayanihan spirit among the teachers, the police, the Parents Teachers Community Association who worked on this project initiated by the PCR branch of the police.

“It’s bringing the police closer to the people and the community,” Roxas said.

He added that this will also help erase the fear of the police among young children and make them feel that their law enforcers care for them.

“It’s not really the amount we spend for the nutrition of these young kids but the camaraderie we foster and making the children smile and come closer to us and make them feel safe with our presence,” Roxas said.

He added that they would also reach out to other schools in this monthly supplemental feeding project. They also hold anti-drugs symposium and medical missions.
