MANILA, Philippines - To celebrate its 40th anniversary, Ballet Philippines (BP) is embarking on a national tour to bring the best of ballet and contemporary dance to audiences in the provinces. BP is featuring “Masterworks,” a showcase of the best works that have established BP as the premiere ballet and contemporary dance company in the country.
The first week of the tour in the Visayas started with a gala performance at the Luce Auditorium of Silliman University on Feb. 1, followed by performances at SM City Bacolod, SM City Iloilo and SM City Cebu’s Theater One. Despite the fact that the performances were held on weekdays, the company was overwhelmed with hundreds of students and other supporters of the performing arts who flocked to see the shows.
Last Friday, an encore performance for high school students in cooperation with Cebu’s Arts Council and SM City Cebu was held. It was a great start for the tour as it garnered consistent enthusiastic audience response.
The unparalleled support of the Visayas audiences has been remarkable, and BP looks forward to the next leg of their tour in Mindanao, with performances at SM City Cagayan de Oro (Feb. 9), Central Bank Convention Hall, Davao City (Feb. 12), SM City Davao (Feb. 13), Panabo (Feb. 15), and St. Mary’s College, Tagum City (Feb. 16).
