MANILA, Philippines - The Cultural Center of the Philippines through its library will launch its Aklatang Bayan project on May 22, 3 pm at the Smokey Mountain in Tondo.
Aklatang Bayan is a revival of the CCP Library’s project in 2002 entitled “Establishment of Reading Centers in Barangays of Metro Manilaâ€, launched in line with Republic Act No.7743 (“An Act Providing for the Establishment of Congressional, City and the Municipal Libraries and Barangay reading Center throughout the Philippinesâ€).
The CCP Library and Archives’ partner institutions in this worthy undertaking then were Adarna Books, Asia Foundation, Library of Congress (Manila Office), Philippine Board on Books for Young People and Rex Oasis Publications.
Our Lady of the Assumption Parish in Barangay Leveriza, Malate, Manila was the first barangay reading center established by the CCP Library and Archives Division.
