Cocopea congress to focus on Filipino competitiveness

MANILA, Philippines - The Coordinating Council of Private Educational Associations (COCOPEA) announced today that its next biennial congress will focus on enhancing the competitiveness of Filipinos.

COCOPEA is the unifying voice of private education in the Philippines with more than 2,000 institutions among its five national member-organizations: Association of Christian Schools, Colleges, and Universities; Catholic Educational Association of the Philippines; Philippine Association of Colleges and Universities; Philippine Association of Private Schools, Colleges, and Universities; and Technical Vocational Schools Association of the Philippines.

The congress will be held from Feb. 20-21 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Ortigas, and the theme will be “Leading Philippine Education for Global Excellence”.

COCOPEA also announced that the objectives of its 5th biennial congress include: Reinforcing the role and impact of private education in national development; Leading and developing an “education competitiveness strategy” alligned to the global standards and leveraged on the country’s assets and distinctiveness; Communicating a unified policy direction for private education as it joins the Asean Economic Community in 2015; Identifying key areas of education excellence that the sector can anchor on in order to bring Philippine education to the forefront this century and beyond; and Collaborating with government in bringing about necessary reforms, recommending new legislative measures, and establishing policy directions for the education sector.
