MANILA, Philippines - Pandacan old-timers refer to Barangay 834 as Isla de Palaka (island of frogs) because it used to be the favorite haunt of numerous frogs that perform nightly “concerts” particularly during the rainy season. In a creative attempt to remind youths to keep away from illegal drugs, a mural painting contest depicting images with anti-drug messages was conducted in the main alley ways leading to Isla de Palaka in Pandacan by Chevron Philippines Inc. (CPI), marketer of popular Caltex brands of fuels and lubricants, which operates a nearby facility in partnership with Hands on Manila (HOM) and barangay leaders.
