Photosynthesis: Celebrating nature

An overwhelming 200 entries flooded STARweek offices for this penultimate month of the Photosynthesis contest, with the theme nature or animals. The wonders of the world around us inspired young shutterbugs to seek out the perfect shot, and they found these in the ordinary, the small, the picturesque.

To celebrate Earth Day on April 22, we are featuring the three winning entries on the cover. These are: first prize–"Buddy Buddies" by Kachina Bongat, 18, of University of Sto. Tomas; second prize–"Hoppy" by Jose Po, 22, of University of Sto. Tomas and third prize– "Nature’s Touch" by Ramon Concepcion, Jr., 16, of New Era High School.

The big number of entries yielded a bumper crop of exceptional photos beyond the three top winners. We are sharing on this page some of the other photos which made it to the finals list.

Next month will be Photosynthesis’ final monthly installment. After that, all monthly winners will be collated and a panel of judges will pick the Photo of the Year winners (first, second and third prizes). Announcement of grand prize winners will be made during The Philippine STAR’s anniversary on July 28, 2005.

March winners may claim their prizes at The Philippine STAR during office hours. Look for Alpha Tolentino of STARweek.
