Amigos para siempre

The mood was celebratory in Baler, the provincial capital of Aurora, when the 12th Philippine-Spanish Friendship Day was held recently. The occasion also commemorated the 115th anniversary of the historic Siege of Baler.

With “Deepening Philippine-Spanish Friendship through Tourism” as its theme, the event held at Plaza de Baler in Aurora had Tourism Secretary Ramon Jimenez Jr. as guest of honor and keynote speaker.  Headlining the three-day festivities in Baler, now also famous among local and international surfers for its towering waves, was Sen. Sonny Angara who authored the Philippine-Spanish Friendship Day Act in an effort to revive bilateral relations based on shared history, values and traditions.

The launching of the book The Manila Galleon by Technical Cooperation Council of the Philippines chair-alternate Ambassador Jose Maria Cariño; the formal turnover of military objects to the Museo de Baler; the opening of the Komedya de Baler exhibit; and the launch of the Philippine-Spanish Trail Tour were just a few of the many exciting activities held to celebrate the event.

To quote Secretary Jimenez, the Philippines and Spain are amigos para siempre (friends for life)!

Going the distance

Celebrating its eighth anniversary recently was the Eurotel chain of hotels. The chain marked its milestone with its annual Eurotel Xenian Awards at Le Parc Events Hall at Metropolitan Park in Pasay City.

The Eurotel hotel chain was born out of a vision of a place to stay where business and leisure blend  well without having to spend so much. Managed by experienced hoteliers, it is the only lodging chain in the country that uses a distinctively European theme and motif.

At the awards gala, the hotel paid tribute to its remarkable men and women who have shown sincerity and loyalty to the organization over the past years. The event also showed the chain’s immense dedication to its corporate mission of providing the best possible services in hospitality.

The night concluded with top-caliber performances from industry partners and Eurotel’s homegrown talents.

Seen at the affair were Eurotel chain of hotels managing director William Go, astute businessman and philanthropist, Euro Towers International Inc. (ETII) chairman Ignacio Gimenez, Hotel Sogo chain CEO Edmundo Las and ETII managing director Roberto Olanday
