Women of power & style

More and more women are now taking the lead in several industries. This is why the glamorous event “Empowered Women of Achievement,” now on its third year, was held recently to honor the country’s most inspiring women.

This year’s awardees were Annabelle Ledesma, Remy Armelli, Zambagueña businesswoman Cory Navarro, Riza Asa (Gandang Pilipina Awardee), Renn Dichoso, Jijie Reformado (Face of the Night Awardee), Remy Ashby, Patty Ong, Estrella Recto and Zheeda Alday.

The Teatrino in Greenhills was filled with luminaries who were all dressed to the nines. Esteemed fashion designer Goullee Gorospe ensured that the women looked gorgeous on stage as they donned some of his couture pieces. A notable highlight of the event was when the awardees wore Goullee’s fiery red gowns, exemplifying the women’s passion for their craft. The ladies also wore the national costumes of different nations, which made the evening more exciting.

Special thanks to the ingenuity of director Edel Templonuevo, Alvin Degamo, Evita Bunyi and Khaki delos Reyes for helping in making this event possible.

Congratulations to Goullee and his team for this magnificent gathering!

A famous visitor

Prior to the launch of her menswear line at Opening Ceremony’s flagship store in Shibuya, Tokyo, Yoko Ono, widow of the legendary “Beatle” John Lennon, visited the official residence of the Philippine Ambassador to Japan located in Fujimi, Kudan.

The famous Japanese artist and fashion designer was accompanied in her visit to her childhood home by Kay Siazon, wife of former Ambassador to Japan and former Foreign Affairs Secretary to two past presidents Domingo “Jun” Siazon Jr.

At the launch, Kay and Yoko were joined by the current Ambassador to Japan Manuel Lopez and his charming wife Maritess.

Apparently, appreciation of Japanese art runs in the Siazon family. Kay and Jun’s son Ken also collects paintings of polka dot artist Yayoi Kusama even before she became hugely popular.

Trust the Siazon couple to extend the typical Filipino hospitality.
