A star-studded victory bash

It definitely was a star-studded evening when Manila’s hotshot A-listers and showbiz luminaries breezed into the garden victory party of boxing champ Manny Pacquiao recently held at the posh residence of former Ilocos Sur Gov. Chavit Singson and his exquisitely striking wife Che in an exclusive suburban village. The guests were entertained in a Las Vegas type of show with magicians and acrobatic acts.

Among the important celebrities who came to party were former First Lady Imelda Marcos, Environment Secretary Lito Atienza, Resty Vergara, Gabby Concepcion, Cesar Montano, Annabelle Rama, Jinkee Pacquiao and Muebles Italiano president Noel Gonzales. It was a marvelous night as many of the guests stayed until the wee hours and everyone had a blast, indeed. Mabuhay!

A country not even his own

A most personal and prestigious book, entitled A Country Not Even His Own, was launched with much anticipation at the Rockwell Tent recently. A remarkable odyssey of an admirable man, starting from the events that inspired him to champion democracy in the Philippines to the ensuing US reaction, including his own arrest and trial. Authored by Steve E. Psinakis and published by Anvil Publishing, the book takes its title from a citation from former President Cory Aquino commending Psinakis for his work in restoring human rights and democracy in the Philippines during the martial law era. A Country Not Even His Own is now available in National Bookstore and other leading bookstores nationwide.

Congratulations and Mabuhay, Steve!

Party hatters all

Some guys have it and some guys don’t. When it comes to throwing fun parties, Resty Vergara is among the best. He recently celebrated another milestone at the Manila Golf Club. Guests came donning extraordinary hats in purple, pink, blue and just about all the striking tints of vibrant colors. The lovable hosts of the party were Nene Leonor, golfer May Neri, Pitang Tiongson, Fe Ng, Chit Salud, Rose Lazaro, Nini Layug, Baby De Jesus, Nonie Basilio, Lily Adina, Consul Mellie Ablaza and Mabel Abaño. The spur-of-the-moment host/singer Muebles Italiano president Noel Gonzales gamely did his song number and another routine with ace businessman real estate developer Gerry Contreras. As the sun set, guests left the party place with gracious smiles and contentment.

Happy birthday, Resty!
