MANILA, Philippines — Sen. Juan Ponce Enrile on Tuesday looked into the text messages exchanged between President Benigno Aquino III and then suspended police Director General Alan Purisima following last year's deadly encounter between rebels and police forces.
Enrile subjected Purisima and disgraced police Special Action Force director Getulio Napeñas to questioning at the Senate committee on public order's reopening of its inquiry into the police anti-terrorist operation in January last year in Mamasapano, Maguindanao.
"[Aquino] did not ask the condition of his troops?" Enrile asked Purisima, referring to Aquino's text messages at the height of the incident.
