Remembering their sacrifices

Our history is replete with the courageous tales of our forefathers who used crude weapons to ward off foreign colonizers. During the wars that followed, World War I and World War II, our history became even more richer with heroes who fought for our motherland.

Memories of blood-drenched bodies, emaciated soldiers and Filipino guerillas who fought the Japanese forces are recalled. And even if every year we give our war heroes honor and distinction, each celebration is a new one, with more and more of our soldiers adding to the list of courageous men who gave up their lives to help preserve and protect our freedoms.

Last April 9, we pay homage to the soldiers’ sacrifices, who today not only fights in the battlefield but likewise takes the brunt of taking care of our people, and assuming new roles in helping build communities out of the frontlines.

Today, the soldiers’ responsibilities are many and varied. We take to heart the significance of Araw ng Kagitingan. Heroism is a legacy all Filipinos are proud to carry all the time.
