This is in response to the Philippine STAR article dated Monday, May 12, 2008 entitled “Bank client heists not yet alarming — NCRPO,” found on its Metro section, page 18.
The Metropolitan Bank & Trust Company (Metrobank) is concerned about the recent bank robberies in Metro Manila and we are working with the Philippine National Police (PNP) to strengthen security at our branches and to prevent these incidents from happening further.
We wish to correct however, certain erroneous statements contained in the article mentioned above. First, the local police have not filed any charges against any of Metrobank’s security personnel or staff in connection with the Marikina City robbery or any of the robberies that recently occurred in Metro Manila. Second, Metrobank did not refuse to turnover to the local police the copy of footage by any of its surveillance cameras.
We would like to reiterate that we are cooperating fully with the PNP on these security issues as we believe that this is in the best interest of the public and all parties involved. — MA. YOLANDA C. CRISANTO, Head, Corporate Communications Division, Metrobank
