RP schools develop organic pesticide

The harmful effects of inorganic pesticides to the environment have prompted Filipino researchers from various universities to develop an environment-friendly pesticide using plants or “ethnobotanicals” as ingredients instead of chemicals.

Researchers at the University of the Philippines-Visayas, West Visayas State University, and Panay State Polytechnic University jointly implemented a project to develop product concepts for pest control using ethnobotanicals.

The project was funded by the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Forestry and Natural Resources Research and Development (PCARRD), one of the five sectoral councils of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST). - Helen Flores
