‘League of Leaders’ search launched

MANILA, Philippines - Wireless telecommunications leader Smart Communications Inc. (Smart), through its Smart Prepaid brand, has launched the search for the top 10 university student organizations in Metro Manila to comprise the “League of Leaders,” an advocacy program that seeks to empower student groups with skills, knowledge and resources in order to reach their goals.

Under the League of Leaders program, Smart Prepaid offers 10 deserving organizations with funding support, skills-building activities and mentoring sessions to boost their group’s strategies, broaden their horizons and optimize their potentials as groups and individuals.

Over 30 student organizations have made the cut in the initial screening, which included a stringent evaluation on their track record in mounting student activities as well as engaging their fellow students to support their advocacies.

These include groups from Adamson University, Arellano University, Ateneo de Manila University, Colegio de San Juan de Letran, De La Salle University, Far Eastern University, Mapua Institute of Technology, National University, New Era University, Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila, San Beda College, University of the Philippines-Diliman and University of Sto. Tomas.

The list will be further whittled down through a campaign pitch challenge to be judged on the basis of the groups’ analysis, creativity and innovation and actual presentation.

The groups will also be judged based on how well they integrate in their organization the thrust of Smart Prepaid’s “Jump In” campaign, which urges the youth to pursue their passions and chase their dreams now more than ever.

Addressing the organizations in a statement, PLDT and Smart chair Manuel V. Pangilinan said the mobile leader, through the program, “will help maximize your potential, hone your leadership skills and build this community of leaders so you can work together, help each other and learn from one another.”

“It is in these student organizations that the youth get to know more about themselves and at the same time learn to become selfless in serving others. Smart wants to be part of that significant process,” said Joel Lumanlan, Smart Prepaid head.

“With the League of Leaders, we hope to create a ripple effect of positive influence among the youth —first, by tapping the groups that have made a mark in their respective schools and, second, giving them the guidance and resources to further reach out to their peers,” he added.

The League of Leaders will culminate in a national youth summit open that features talks from inspirational leaders and young achievers, personality development sessions, and other exciting activities.
