Power firm launches workbooks to promote reading

SAN MANUEL, Pangasinan, Philippines— The San Roque Power Corp. (SRPC) with the Department of Education (DepEd) and the Synergeia Foundation formally launched early this week three workbooks for elementary pupils. The workbook launching is part of the SRPC’s program on reading, mathematics and science proficiency program with the aim to bring quality education to school children for the host communities of the SRPC. At least 9,000 workbooks will be distributed to grades II and III pupils in 89 public elementary school in San Manuel and San Nicolas towns in this province and in Itogon town in Benguet, according to SRPC vice president for corporate social responsibility Tom Valdez. “This is one of our CSR programs we started in 2007,” Valdez told newsmen. He said this is one way of helping in improving the basic foundation of these school children as he emphasized that the workbooks are just supplementary materials for the children’s learning. SRPC operates the San Roque Multi-Purpose Dam which is situated in the boundaries of San Manuel and San Nicolas towns in Pangasinan and Itogon town in Benguet.
