MANILA, Philippines - On Aug. 23, the UP Diliman College of Home Economics (CHE) will observe the death centenary of Teodora Alonso. The event titled “Imahen ng Ekonomiyang Pantahanan” is part of the CHE’s year-long celebration of its 50th foundation anniversary since its main building carries the name of the mother of our national hero. The activities organized for this special occasion include 1) an unveiling of a marker honoring Teodora Alonso; 2) a round table discussion participated in by descendants of the Rizal family, members of the National Historical Commission and the United Artists for Cultural Conservation and Development; 3) awarding of the winners of the essay writing contest on Teodora Alonso and 4) a series of lectures on Home Economics, “Textile and Trade” and “Art and Dress”.
