Sy Foundation supports Xavier School Nuvali

MANILA, Philippines - The Henry Sy Foundation formalized the deed of donation of a primary school building with Xavier School last May 11, 2010 at SM Mall of Asia, to support the school’s new campus in Nuvali. The Sy family will underwrite the construction of the primary school building, one of three main facilities scheduled in the first phase of development. The deed was signed by Fr. Ismael Zuloaga, SJ, chairman of Xavier School, and witnessed by Ambassador Bienvenido Tan Jr., chairman emeritus. Representing the Sy Foundation were Hans Sy and family patriarch, Henry Sy Sr., who turned over the initial donation.

The building, which will be named the Henry Sy Primary School Building, will start construction this month and will be completed in time for the school opening in June 2012. Xavier School Nuvali will be administered by Xavier School (San Juan) and will offer the same Xavier education, designed as a college preparatory curriculum with a core Chinese studies program.

However, the new school will be open to both boys and girls, and will maintain a scholarship level of 25 percent of its student population.

The new campus will rise on a 15-hectare property situated in the heart of Nuvali, an eco-community development in Sta. Rosa/Calamba Laguna. Aligned with the vision of Nuvali, the school campus is being developed to adhere to principles of sustainability, adopting green design and technology.

All the sons of Henry Sy Sr. were educated in Xavier School: Henry Jr. (Batch ’70), Hans (Batch ’73), Herbert (Batch ’75) and Harley (Batch ’76). Hans Sy currently sits in the board of trustees of the Xavier School Educational and Trust Fund.
